Confernce championship scenarios after week 7
Big 10
Oregon Ducks, after beating Ohio State at home 32-31 they are in a great position. We misewell pencil them into the championship in Indianapolis. Their biggest test will be on the road against the Wolverines and from what we have seen it shouldn’t be as hard as we thought going into the season.
Ohio State Buckeyes, after the close loss on the road the Buckeyes will be fine! To reach their goals they need to win out. The Big 10 championship which would most likely be a rematch against the Ducks. Ohio State has answered the QB concerns even in a loss but the defense, notably the secondary needs some work.
Penn State Nittany Lions, can they finally get over the hump? They do not have to face Michigan this year and have already beaten a USC team everyone thought could compete for a title. Penn State and James Franklin know they have to beat the Buckeyes to have a shot at the championship.
Iowa Hawkeyes, even with the loss to Ohio State they would need to win out and Penn State and Oregon would have to stumble somewhere.
Prediction: Oregon (12-0) vs Ohio State (11-1) both make playoffs,
Penn State (11-1) gets in the playoffs
SEC
Texas Longhorns, they look like the number one team in the country up to this point. Even with a loss to Georgia on the road I believe they will be in the championship game. They are elite and they show it every single week.
Georgia Bulldogs, if they win out and beat Texas the loss they suffered to Alabama will not matter as they will be in Atlanta once again competing for the SEC title. Now, Georgia is suffering a lot of unfortunate injuries this season and they need to be able to get healthy. They do not look like the same dominant team as they have been the last couple of years.
LSU Tigers, undefeated in conference play as of now. The Tigers even have a pretty favorable schedule to make it to the championship. They could even suffer a loss depending on how the rest of the conference shakes up.
Texas A&M Aggies, the best remaining schedule for contenders in the SEC, will face Texas at the end of the season but, if they beat LSU they could definitely make it to Atlanta.
Alabama Crimson Tide, since the second half of the Georgia game they do not look very strong. Vanderbilt ended up beating them and they have had a couple of other close games. They do not look like they once were and Kalen Deboer is struggling to get his guys going. If the win out they will be in!
Prediction: Texas (13-0) vs Texas A&M (10-2) both make playoffs,
Alabama (10-2), Georgia (10-2), LSU (10-2) gets in the playoffs
Big 12
BYU Cougars, I have the cougars losing to Utah but, other than that I believe they win out and make it into the championship game. They look to be much better at home and the only concern is the Arizona State game.
Kansas State Wildcats, they have to win out to make it to the championship. There is a way to make it in depending on how the other top teams do
Iowa State, as long as they keep winning and beat Kansas State at the end of the year they will be in. They can also be in if KSU loses another game.
Colorado, they have shown that they can be clutch, but they have a ton of injuries. Travis Hunter needs to be healthy as well as Shaduer Sanders.
Arizona State, they have a really favorable schedule the rest of the way. I believe if they can play the same way they have been they could be in!\
Prediction: BYU (11-1) vs Iowa State (11-1), BYU gets in the playoffs
ACC
Miami Hurricanes, they have not looked great throughout the last couple of games. Cam Ward is good enough to will this team to victory and get into the championship.
Clemson Tigers, they had one bad game against Georgia. The Bulldogs were ranked number one in the country and it was basically an away game for them. Ever since that game the Tigers have been unstoppable and the defense looks great as well as the offense under Cade Klubnik.
Prediction: Miami (11-1) vs Clemson (11-1), both get in the playoffs
Group of 5
Boise State Broncos, Ashton Jeanty may win the heisman. There is a good chance he breaks the rushing record. They have a great offense and a defense that is good enough to win games. They are the front runner!
UNLV Rebels, They need to win out as well as beat Boise in the Mountain West Championship. They have looked good so far and a close loss to Syracuse won’t hurt them if they win out!
Prediction: Boise State (11-1)
